Sherwood Energy Village
When the Ollerton Colliery was closed in 1994, the local community, economy and environment were in danger of being destroyed. Local people were determined not to let this happen, and established Sherwood Energy Village Ltd (SEV), regenerating the site for the benefit of the community.
SEV acquired the 36-hectare site in 1996, and it has now been transformed into an award-winning mixed use sustainable development.
The site features ecological housing in the form of theSEVille development, 196 low carbon houses of different types, incorporating green technology and design features.
Parkland and green spaces have been provided for sport and recreation, and the site uses Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) to reduce flood risks.
SEV also contains commercial and industrial floor space, built to high environmental and energy standards. Over 600 jobs are now provided on the site, the same as when the colliery originally closed down, with scope for many more both on-site and in the surrounding village.
SEV is a genuine example of environmental, social and economic objectives being delivered together in the promotion of sustainable development.

Innovation Park
On its Jubilee Campus the University of Nottingham is developing an Innovation Park on which to work more closely with businesses. In planning is a new Energy Technologies Building - a 22,600 sq ft exemplar low carbon building that will be dedicated to energy research, demonstration and outreach to regional businesses and stakeholders. Office space for letting by businesses is available in the landmark Sir Colin Campbell Building, also on the Innovation Park, and more could become available elsewhere on this site.
CORE
Centre of Renewable Energy (CORE) is a business and conference site which offers carbon neutral managed workspaces and meeting facilities. It is also a showcase for a range of cutting-edge renewable energy technologies. The building is designed to produce more heat, cooling, electricity and power through green technologies than it uses during its day to day operations, and is already exporting electricity back into the grid.
